Risk factors associated with increased possibility of developing diseases are commonly referred to as metabolic syndrome. Obesity is one such risk factor causing excess body fat to be accumulated to the extent that it adversely affects health and life expectancy. Obesity is known to initiate inflammation, which in turn can lead to type 2 diabetes. The exact mechanism as to how this occurs is however not well understood. We describe a label-free HDMSE lipidomic approach using Vion IMS QTof to reveal molecular factors to characterize and quantify the obesity and diabetes lipidome. Learn about routine unbiased ion mobility enabled data independent profiling using state of the art ion mobility quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry and the latest informatics workflows, including a new collision cross section metabolite/lipid specific database, enabling robust and reproducible quantitative/qualitative analysis of clinically relevant samples.
